Young athletes seeking to improve their speed, agility, explosiveness, footwork, running form, balance and flexibility can benefit by attending on a consistent basis. Three-four days per week is considered to be an optimum speed-training regimen. PUBLIC SPEED CAMP derives its training techniques, drills and program design from successful Division I college football programs and the NFL.PUBLIC SPEED CAMP is a private entity NOT associated with Los Alamitos High School. PUBLIC SPEED CAMP can help your son or daughter improve his or her athletic ability by honing running technique, posture, providing regular nutrition information and increasing cardiovascular endurance. Back To Top 2. Where is PUBLIC SPEED CAMP located?PUBLIC SPEED CAMP is located @ Los Alamitos High School (3591 Cerritos Ave. Los Alamtios, CA 90720). How much does PUBLIC SPEED CAMP cost?PUBLIC SPEED CAMP costs $20 per training day. 3-day, and 12-day passes are available as well. Participants must be at least 10 years of age. When is PUBLIC SPEED CAMP?PUBLIC SPEED CAMP is 3 days per week (Tuesday and Thursday at 4-5:00 pm and 10 am-12 on Saturday's). Each session is approximately 75-90 minutes including a unified warm up, as well as a cool down period with intense static stretching.PUBLIC SPEED CAMP integrates core strength in its workouts on a daily basis as well as broad and vertical jumping. Saturday’s Public Speed Camp training session involves competition. Back To Top 5. When did PUBLIC SPEED CAMP begin?PUBLIC SPEED CAMP began training in the summer of 2006 with a small group of hardworking athletes from the Los Alamitos/Seal Beach/Long Beach area. From May-August, PUBLIC SPEED CAMP trained over 75 young athletes. Nearly all showed improvement in coordination, speed, agility as well as confidence.Parents and athletes seem to enjoy PUBLIC SPEED CAMP’S up-tempo approach to speed training. Back To Top 6. How can PUBLIC SPEED CAMP help my son?The training program is organized, directed and implemented by current Los Alamitos High School varsity football coach Paul Publico. Coach Publico is assisted by former Los Alamitos High School football players, ex-UC Davis football players, as well as other former standout athletes passionate about helping kids reach their performance goals.Back To Top 7. What is unique about PUBLIC SPEED CAMP?PUBLIC SPEED CAMP goals are to maximize the athletic potential of each individual while providing a fun, safe environment to train. Visualization and goal setting are integral components of being an athlete, so PUBLIC SPEED CAMP incorporates several measured exercises so athletes can judge their own level of improvement. Each day is different at PUBLIC SPEED CAMP. While some speed camps constantly perform the same exercises and drills, PUBLIC SPEED CAMP alters its program on a daily, weekly and monthly basis. The program design model is one geared toward constantly challenging and improving athletic ability. By attending PUBLIC SPEED CAMP three-four days per week, an athlete will achieve significant gains in their flexibility, speed, agility, explosiveness and mental approach to competitive sports. PUBLIC SPEED CAMP derived its program by looking at a variety of professional and collegiate training programs. By analyzing the common threads in the training programs PUBLIC SPEED CAMP developed its own regimen using similar principles. Back To Top 8. What is PUBLIC SPEED CAMP’s take on nutrition?PUBLIC SPEED CAMP believes nutrition is a primary concern for any aspiring athlete. Excess body fat, as well as poor fueling tactics are going to adversely affect how the athlete performs, moves etc. Good habits are as easy to form as bad habits, which is why PUBLIC SPEED CAMP encourages its athletes to begin forming the right ones at a young age. Each participant receives nutritional information from various sources including: D-I college football programs and literature from professional nutritionists.Back To Top 9. What equipment do I need to participate in PUBLIC SPEED CAMP?Because the grass will be wet at times, athletes are encouraged to bring a large towel to PUBLIC SPEED CAMP.Athletes must also bring one pair of athletic shoes, as well as one pair of cleats or spikes. Workout attire is recommended (t-shirts and athletic shorts) and make sure all athletes are hydrated before attending PUBLIC SPEED CAMP. Drinking water is essential to any athlete performing at his or her optimum level. Athletes are also encouraged to eat 2-4 hours prior to attending a PUBLIC SPEED CAMP training session.
